| 23.11.2011 EUROLEAGUE WOMEN Candice Dupree sank two free-throws with two seconds remaining to lift Sparta&K Moscow Region to a 72-70 victory over Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration on Wednesday. The Russian club won for the fourth game in a row in the EuroLeague Women, and the fifth time in seven Group C outings. BLMA will not be hanging their heads after the defeat which has left them 4-3. They played extremely well in the fourth quarter and even took a 70-67 lead when Kristen Mann hit a three-pointer with 51 seconds to play. Edwige Lawson, who counts Sparta&K as one of the teams she once played for, provided the pass for the bucket and was credited with her sixth assist. There can be no underestimating the heart and ice-cool demeanor of a champion like Sparta&K's Seimone Augustus, though. The MVP of the WNBA Finals after leading Minnesota to their first title this year, Augustus came out of a Sparta&K timeout and promptly tied the game with a three-ball of her own. Dupree then showed why offensive rebounds often mean the difference between winning and losing. After Lawson missed on a drive for BLMA, Sonja Petrovic launched an attempt from three-point range but missed. Dupree was there for the rebound and was fouled by Mann. The forward went to the line and sank both attempts for a two-point advantage. BLMA called a timeout to draw up their last play. They got the ball to Mann and she attempted a jump shot from inside the arc but missed as Sparta&K held on in front of their relieved fans in Vidnoje. Dupree and Augustus finished with 19 points apiece for Sparta&K while Stephany Skrba and Fatimatou Sacko each poured in 12 for BLMA. |
