|Julie McBride finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds as Gospic CO thumped Brno|
Gospic Croatia snapped a four-game losing streak in the EuroLeague Women by blowing out Frisco Sika Brno 80-61 on Wednesday evening.
In a Group C battle of 1-4 teams waged in the Czech Republic, Gospic stormed into a 13-2 lead and never looked back.
Kalisha Keane had six points and Sandra Mandir four in that early scoring burst for Gospic.
Stipe Bralic's team was on top, 30-15, by the end of the first quarter with Keane sitting on 12 points.
They were in complete command at half-time with a 46-23 advantage.
The Croatians were in front 69-36 by the end of the third period and they coasted over the last 10 minutes.
Keane and Marija Vrsaljko finished with 19 points apiece for Gospic.
Eva Komplet had 14 points and both Mandir and Julie McBride 11.
Alena Hanusová led Brno, who outscored the visitors 25-11 in the last quarter, with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Gospic were eight of 15 from long range.
Frisco Brno Head Coach Jan Bobrovsky:
"I didn´t see a performance so full of fear of our team in this season in the first thirty minutes. We lost in Madrid one week ago with a difference of forty points but we played better in offence. I was surprised with our bad defence. We prepared two days for the game, but the start was horrible. We played better only in last quater but it was too late."
Gospic Head Coach Stipe Bralic:
"We played an excellent game. Especially in the first half, we had 23 points advantage. Our defence was very good and the same I could say about our three points shooting. In the second half we played easy because we knew about our victory. I am very happy for our second victory in EuroLeague."
Frisco Brno player Alena Hanusova:
"Our bad defence and Gospic's good three point shooting were the reason for our bad performance. We lost concentration in the begginning of the game. We tried to play better, but the gap of 30 points was too big for turning around the result."
Gospic player Julia McBride:
"We prepared very good for this game and played very well in the first quater. When we won 35:15 our performance was better than the one of our rivals. We played very good pick and roll. Our defence was more aggressive and we had power in rebounds."
