GAME REPORT

Revitalized Rivas Win On The Road

Essence Carson (Rivas Ecopolis)
Essence Carson contributed 10 points to Rivas Ecopolis' second straight win

Rivas Ecopolis continued their EuroLeague Women resurgence with a 77-68 win at Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration on Wednesday evening.

With an 0-2 record and minus injured star Amaya Valdemoro last week, Rivas looked to be headed for a third straight loss but they came from behind in the fourth quarter to stun Sparta&K Moscow Region for their first victory and now they've clinched another win that was equally impressive since it came against an in-form BLMA in France.

Asjha Jones, the world champion of Team USA, had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Rivas.

The game hung in the balance until late in the fourth quarter.

Rivas led by as many as 12 points in the second half but Edwige Lawson's jumper with 3:05 remaining in the game cut the visitors' advantage to 66-64.

Laura Nicholls, who is blossoming into one of the top players in Spain, answered with a jump shot and Anna Cruz then picked off a BLMA pass and went in for a lay-up and a 70-64 advantage.

The next to score was Essence Carson, whose basket stretched the lead to eight.

BLMA got no closer than six points the rest of the way.

Elisa Aguilar continued to play as well as ever for Rivas, pouring in 16 points while Cruz had 15 and Nicholls 11.

The invaluable point guard Clare Bermejo Moreno didn't score for Rivas but had four assists and three steals.

Kristen Mann led the hosts with 17 points, with Lawson and Stephany Skrba contributing 14 apiece.

Both sides are now 2-2 in Group C.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes BLMA vs Rivas Ecopolis

BLMA Head Coach Valéry Demory:

"We Lost this game because of me. I gave the players too much rest time. We didn't play good basketball, the first half of the game we were not aggressive. This game was a good basketball lesson and we are going to use it for the rest of the competition."

BLMA Captain Gaelle Skrela:
"We had 2 days off, so we cannot say we lost because we were tired. We were not aggressive in defense. We tried to come back in the game, but we made too many mistakes. It was too late."

Rivas Head Coach Miguel Martinez Mendez:
"I want to thank the BLMA for hospitality. We played well. We did a good job on their shooting guards. I am happy about this game. Last week we beat Sparta&K and tonight BLMA, it's good for our confidence."

Rivas Forward Asjiha Jones:
"BLMA had the skills to come back in the game. It was important to get the win here after the tough start we had in the EuroLeague."
