|The EuroBasket Women 2011 MVP, Elena Danilochkina, was hot from downtown sinking 6 of her 7 three-point shots, including the one that sealed the victory for Nadezhda in overtime|
Elena Danilochkina's three-pointer lifted Nadezhda to a dramatic 78-76 win in overtime against UNIQA Euroleasing Sopron to get them off the mark in Euroleague Women's Group B.
In an up-and-down contest, Nadezhda had come roaring back in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 65-65 and force the extra period thanks to late free throws from Anastasiya Verameyanka.
The two teams remained locked together through the extra period as they traded baskets, but after Diana Furesz had brought Sopron back level at 75-75, Danilochkina hit a three-pointer -her sixth of the night- with 21 seconds to go.
Sopron called a timeout, but struggled to get a shot off as time ticked down, and instead Natalia Zhedik fouled Olexandra Kurasova with two ticks left.
She made the first but missed the second, with no time left for Sopron to try for another basket.
Nadezhda had begun the fourth quarter 53-44 down and were still trailing by 10, 63-53, midway through the quarter.
But Rebekkah Brunson split a pair of free throws to spark a 12-2 run to finish the quarter and force the extra period.
Danilochkina scored 21 points, making six of seven from three-point range, while Verameyanka also had 21 points.
Oxana Zakalyuzhnaya had 15 points and Brunson 12 with eight rebounds.
Zsofia Fegyverneky and Furesz had 16 points each for Sopron, while Kurasova and Tijana Krivacevic added 13 apiece.
