GAME REPORT

Fenerbahce Stay Unbeaten At Nadezhda

Fenerbahce broke open a tight game in the third quarter at Nadezhda and won for the 11th consecutive time in the EuroLeague Women on Wednesday.

The Turkish giants trailed 42-34 early in the second half but took command with a 10-3 run and ended up winning, 72-60.

Angel McCoughtry led the winners with 24 points, while a pair of Latvia internationals made important contributions in a key stretch of the game that put Fener in front to stay.

A three-point play by Zane Tamane gave the visitors a 48-46 advantage and two Elina Babkina free-throws followed to make it a four-point lead.

McCoughtry then added two more from the stripe to increase her points haul to 20 and Fenerbahce had their noses in front to stay.

Going to the fourth quarter behind 58-50, Nadezhda drew to within five when Elena Berseneva drilled a three-ball, but they got no closer.

McCoughtry, Birsel Vardarli and Tamane each made jumpers in a 6-0 run as Fener moved back in front by double digits and coasted to another impressive victory under coach George Dikeoulakos.

Tamane finished with 10 points and eight rebounds and Penny Taylor added 10 points with six boards.

Fenerbahce's defense held Nadezhda to just 25 of 64 shooting from the floor.

Nadezhda, who came into this week's game in third place in Group B, dropped to 6-5 with the defeat.

They were led by Rebekkah Brunson's 14 points and eight rebounds, while Anastasiya Verameyenka had 11 boards to go with her eight points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Nadezhda vs. Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce Head Coach George Dikeoulakos
"In the beginning our game was weak, and Nadezhda started the game in a very smart way, they can play as a team very well. Fortunately, we got our emotions during the game, we started to play more brave and aggressive basketball and won in the end."

Nadezhda Head Coach Alexandr Kovalev
"In the third and fourth quarters we didn't score our free throws. The key point in defence was to block big players in the opponent's team and I think we succeeded. But we didn't manage to hold off Angel McCoughtry, letting her score 24 points."

Fenerbahce player Elina Babkina
"It was difficult for us to play in the first half of the match, although in general it was a hard and tough game. We managed to play more actively in the third quarter, we scored 26 points and led the game. But we had to fight up to the end."

Nadezhda player Elena Danilochkina
"The match was really hard. After such games, if you lose, it is really difficult to recover. You saw the match with your own eyes. In the first half we did a lot, we were leading. Unfortunately, we couldn't keep the advantage."
