|Elena Danilochkina erupted for 11 first-quarter points as Nadezhda beat Tarbes easily|
Nadezhda cruised to their sixth victory of the EuroLeague Women campaign on Tuesday after dominating the opening exchanges against Tarbes.
The Russian outfit stormed into a 36-20 lead midway through the second quarter in Orenburg and claimed a 72-54 Group B triumph.
Rebekkah Brunson and Oxana Zakalyuzhnaya each had nine points and Katie Douglas seven in that strong start for Nadezhda.
Winless Tarbes knew they were going to be in for a long day when Elena Danilochina got into a good shooting rhythm early on.
She had 11 of her 13 points in the first quarter, nine coming on shots from behind the arc.
One of her treys came in the midst of a 12-0 run that was capped by a Zakalyuzhnaya lay-up which gave Nadezhda a 26-8 lead with 1:11 to go in the first quarter.
The French finished the frame on a 6-0 run to reduce the arrears to 26-14, but Zakalyuzhnaya began the second quarter with a three-point play as Nadezhda kept the pressure on.
They built a 39-22 advantage before going to the break on top, 45-29.
Brunson began the third quarter by drilling back-to-back jump shots for a 49-29 stranglehold on proceedings.
Nadezhda remained in total control the rest of the way.
Tarbes (0-8) turned the ball over 20 times and made just one of 12 shots from long range.
Nadezhda were led by Brunson's 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Tarbes GB Head Coach Pascal Pisan
"It was very difficult today to play because we were very tired after the long journey and the time difference influenced us badly. Within the last two nights we were sleeping only like 3-4 hours. We had a couple of strong games in the national championship before and were very tired after them and we missed two players too. The Orenburg team started the game with fast running and they scored many 3-pointers in the beginning. We tried alternative plays, played inside and we improved our game but we missed 3-point shots we needed though we didn't even get many chances to make them."
Nadezhda Head Coach Alexander Kovalev
"The start of the game tonight was really good, the team played fast and made their shots. Quickly we took the lead of the game and I'm quite satisfied with the first half of the game. In fact, I believe we won the game in the first two quarters."
Tarbes GB player Charlotte Preiss
"The game today was very hard. We were very tired after travel. Besides, two of our players could not come to the game tonight to help us."
Nadezhda player Oxana Zakalyuzhnaya
"We played good tonight. We tried to run fast and followed all of the coach's instructions. Even when we took the lead of the game we tried not to stop and secure our position."
