|Olexandra Kurasova led UE Sopronwith 20 points as the Hungarian club levelled their record|
UNIQA-Euroleasing Sopron strengthened their bid to reach the EuroLeague Women play-offs on Wednesday and denied Tarbes their first win of the season.
Playing in France, Norbert Székely's side clinched a 76-67 victory.
Olexandra Kurasova had 20 points for the Hungarians, who improved to 3-4 in Group B.
Naura El Gargati and Alexandra Rochell Montgomery poured in 14 apiece as the French club slumped to 0-8 in Group B.
Tarbes pulled to within 58-55 with 9:00 remaining but got no closer.
Dora Horti answered with a jumper and after several misses for both sides, center Horti scored again to push the lead to 62-55.
Tarbes got no closer than five the rest of the way.
The French outfit may have lost, but they battled to the end.
Tarbes also put on a free-throw shooting exhibition, making all 17 of their attempts at the line.
Sopron weren't bad, either, drilling 15 of 18 at the charity stripe.
Tarbes player Charlotte PREISS:
"I am disappointed by the result. It was a hard match but we know always how to fight in this type of match. We held well during one half-time, but Sopron was more skillful in the second period. We miss always the last five minutes. I hope that we will manage to win one or two matches in EuroLeague.
Tarbes head coach Pascal Pisan:
"We managed to win the fight for rebounds against Sopron. We bothered for a long time their leader Zsofia Fegyverneky and we found solutions in defense. Oleksandra Kurasova was very good this evening, that has to fall on us! We did not still manage to find the distant shootings. The players are not in success, thus they lose confidence. Without this there are no solutions on the defenses of zone.
Sopron head coach Norbert Székely:
"I am very satisfied with this victory, our defense of zone in the second half-time was very effective. Our first half was not good, there were many faults in rebounding. I wish good luck to the team of Tarbes for the EuroLeague and for their championship and that we can meet again next season.
Sopron player Diana Füresz:
"I am happy about this victory and I hope that we are going to continue this way. We played as a team very well. It is thanks to our good defense in the second half-time that we managed to win."
