|Penny Taylor led the attack as Fenerbahce rocked Sopron with 18 points|
Fenerbahce slipped up in the Turkish top flight over the weekend against Optimum Ted Ankara but hit back with a vengeance in the EuroLeague Women on Wednesday night in Istanbul by thrashing UNIQA-Euroleasing Sopron in Group B, 91-60.
With the contest knotted at 8-8 just 3:36 into the game, Fener exploded.
Led by Penny Taylor, the hosts raced into a 30-10 advantage.
Taylor poured in 12 of her 18 points in the frame.
Sopron dug in their heels and fought back.
Much to the relief of the fans monitoring events back in Hungary, the team pulled to within 37-28 when Zsófia Fegyverneky split a pair of free-throws with a minute remaining in the second quarter.
Taylor went in for a lay-up for Fener, but the Sopron guard Diana Fürész made the last shot of the half to leave the Hungarians down 39-30 at half-time.
When Olexandra Kurasova nailed a jumper to start the third quarter for Sopron, Fener's lead that once stood at 20 was cut to seven.
Former Sopron star Angel McCoughtry and Taylor answered with buckets, though, as Fener regained control.
They went on to outscore Sopron 29-12 in the quarter and pulled away for a convincing triumph.
McCoughtry had 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Zane Tamane poured in 14 points and Nevriye Yilmaz 10.
Fener improved to 3-0 with the win and Sopron fell to 1-2.
