Uni Seat Gyor dominated in overtime to turn a tense game into a romp, beating Lotos Gdynia 86-76 in their Euroleague Women Group A clash.
This battle of previously winless teams stayed close throughout, but in a dramatic fourth quarter, hosts Gyor wiped out a five-point deficit to go eight points clear, 65-57, on Quanitra Hollingsworth's lay-up with 4:01 to go.
But Gdynia rallied, drawing level at 66-66 on a three-pointer from Ivana Jalcova to set up a tight finish.
Anna Lakoth went to the line with 12 seconds left, but could only split her free throws, giving Gyor a three-point edge, 71-68, and it was not enough as Jolene Anderson tied it with a buzzer-beater one second from time to force another five minutes of action.
But while the teams had been locked together for so long, the extra period was dominated by the hosts.
Anderson had made an early three-pointer to cancel out one from Rita Rasheed and make it 74-74, but Gyor then finished on a 12-2 run to put the game away as they held the visitors to just two points over the final 4:27 of the game.
Hollingsworth led Gyor with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Renee Montgomery added 17 points and Rasheed had 15.
Anderson poured in 25 points for Gdynia while adding nine boards, while Aneika Henry scored 19 points with 15 rebounds.
Ines Ajanovic also reached double figures with 10 points.
Uni Seat Gyor Head Coahc Ákos Fűzy:
"I am very proud of my players because we won against a very good team. At half-time we made some changes and we found our rhytm. In the last minutes we made some mistakes but in over-time we were able to finish the game off."
Lotos Gdynia Head Coach Javier Fort:
"We had more rebounds and shots but we missed too many free throws and field goals. We controlled the game in the first half but we lost our way. In overtime Győr played better, they were calm and composed and deserved the win."
