A week is a long time in basketball and VICI Aistes were reminded of that on Wednesday as ZVVZ USK Prague blew them out in their EuroLeague Women Group A meeting.
After winning with a buzzer-beating three-ball from Rima Valentiene last week in Kaunas against Ros Casares, the Lithuanians hit the road and fell 98-60 at Prague.
Lubor Blazek's team won for the sixth time in 10 games while VICI went down for the eighth time this season.
Prague trailed only briefly, in the early minutes of the game.
Behind 8-4, the hosts got baskets from Ticha Penicheiro, Eva Viteckova and Ilona Burgrova.
After Tatsiana Likhtarovich knotted the game at 10-10 with a score for the visitors, Viteckova and Likhtarovich traded three-pointers.
Katerina Elhotova followed with a shot from the arc to make it 16-13 for Prague.
The three-ball ignited a 12-1 run that put the home side in front to stay.
They led 31-19 at the end of the first quarter, 53-35 at half-time and 77-42 with 10 minutes to play.
Viteckova finished with a game-high 19 points with four of her teammates also hitting double figures.
Amanda Kemezys led VICI Aistes with 18 points.
VICI Aistes Head Coach Mantas Sernius
"There are no excuses for us. We did mistakes in defending 1 on 1, let them box us out and we were slow. USK played very well, they were fast and scored a lot of points from fast breaks. Last week we won over Valencia at home, but to play at home is always different. Valencia was surprised, they let us score easy baskets and that gave us energy to win the match. Today we focused mainly on USK's shooters, but they had too many open shots. That was a mistake and it's definitely not a positive result."
ZVVZ USK Prague Head Coach Lubor Blažek
"It was a huge motivation for us to know that VICI Aistes beat Valencia last week. The team was aware of this warning, it strengthened our concentration and we were ready for it. We kept our defensive systems, we put hard effort in defensive rebound and we didn't let them play their game. This decided the match. We put our hearts in the game. Today we played the whole match with huge team spirit."
VICI Aistes player Amanda Kemezys
"It was a tough game today which gave credit for the home team. There‘s no excuse for us. We tried, but we had a lot of turnovers. It was a big learning experience for us."
ZVVZ USK Prague player DeLisha Milton-Jones
"We had a great day today. We were very good in shooting, we were successful in fast breaks and we were able to prepare good shooting positions for ourselves. Today we were also successful in rebounds. During the season we were a bit inconsistent, but such a victory is perfect for team spirit. I hope this could be a start of something special."
