|When in search of a safe pair of hands, look no further - Taurasi led all scorers with 21 points and helped Galatasaray stay unbeaten|
If ever in doubt, get the ball to Taurasi.
That's what teams have done so often over the years and that's exactly what Galatasaray did on Wednesday night as they found themselves clinging to a two-point lead over Lotos Gdynia with less than four minutes to go.
Taurasi hit two big shots to help propel the hosts to a 77-71 victory.
She buried a three-pointer to stretch the advantage to 67-62 and after Jolene Anderson scored on a drive for Lotos, Taurasi again hit a three-pointer for a 70-64 lead.
The Turkish outfit, having been on top by 14 late in the third quarter before watching the visitors from Poland find their way back into the game, ended up going in front by nine in the final minute before winning by six.
Taurasi made four of five shots from long range and led all scorers with 21 points.
Tina Charles had eight rebounds to go with her 16 points.
Anderson poured in 20 points in defeat.
Galatasaray improved to 5-0 in Group A and Lotos fell to 1-4.
Lotos Gdynia Head Coach Javier Fort
"We know that Galatasaray is a very difficult team to beat, one of the best teams in Europe, also the favourite for the EuroLeague Women title. We tried to be close all the game and we stayed till the last quarter, but in the last quarter Taurasi made two very important baskets to win the game. I'm proud of my team, they fight. This is the line we have to follow to grow like a team."
Galatasaray Medical Park Head Coach Ceyhun Yildizoglu
"When the game started they played very strong defence against us. Of course we have to play better offence against their strong defence. Maybe first and second period we played well but at the end of the game maybe we were tired and let them get closer. All EuroLeague Women games are hard. We won, I am very happy about that. We must take some lessons from this game, we will focus for next game and we'll think why we played bad in the second half, we'll solve the problems."
Lotos Gdynia player Aneika Henry
"I think we really put up a great fight, none of us gave up. We have to keep fighting in the next matches."
Galatasaray Medical Park player Alba Torrens
"I think that all EuroLeague Women games are so hard and today in the last minutes we played well. We won an important game because all games will be difficult."
