|Anna Montañana showed up sharp against some of her old teammates, pouring in 15 points and coralling 9 rebounds in USK Prague's win in Valencia|
ZVVZ USK Prague threw away one lead but built another to see off Ros Casares 67-59 in Spain and keep the Valencia team off the top of Euroleague Women's Group A.
After allowing the hosts to wipe out an early 12-point advantage, Prague pulled clear down the stretch to level their own record at 2-2 while leaving Ros Casares on 3-1.
Prague had dominated the first half of the game and more, reeling off 10 straight points to go 10-2 up in the first quarter, and then using a fast-break basket from DeLisha Milton-Jones early in the second quarter to establish a dominating 22-10 lead.
Ros Casares kept scrapping, and used a 10-2 run to close the gap to 24-20 on Ann Wauters' three-point play.
They kept Prague under pressure and finally re-took the lead early in the third quarter, with back-to-back baskets from Sancho Lyttle making it 33-30.
Prague came right back to reclaim the edge, sparking a spell that saw the lead change hands several times.
But the visitors began to re-establish a comfortable lead with a 10-3 run early in the fourth quarter that put them up 50-44 on Milton-Jones' jump-shot.
Wauters cut it back to three, 50-47, but Eva Viteckova responded with a long ball and another three from Elin Eldebrink made it 56-49 with 2:45 to go.
Ros Casares were blowing chances to put the pressure on, with Wauters missing an extra point from the free throw line before a turnover from Eshaya Murphy handed the ball back.
A big three-pointer from Silvia Dominguez gave them hope, down five 62-57 with 36 seconds to go, but Laia Palau was off target with another three ball moments later and Viteckova hit a pair from the line to make it 65-57 with 25 seconds to go, putting another nail in the hosts' coffin.
Palau made late free throws for the Valencia team, but it was too little too late as Viteckova iced it.
The late free throws took Viteckova to 20 points to lead Prague, while Anna Montanana had 15 and Milton-Jones 12.
Lyttle led Ros Casares with 19 points while Wauters poured in 18 while adding eight rebounds.
Natalia Hejková, Ros Casares coach:
"It was our worst game from the beginning of the season for many reasons. We had to shot much better. 59 points for this team is really bad. We knew about shooters in Prague, but we didn't do a good job in defense".
Lubor Blažek, ZVVZ USK Prague coach:
"This is an important win for us because Ros Casares has an excellent team, one of the best in Europe. We'll play in Ekaterinburg the next week so we expect to continue in this winning way".
Silvia Domínguez, Ros Casares player:
"We know that our EuroLeague Women group is difficult. We didn't play well in this game and we didn't play together. We have to work a lot".
Anna Montañana, ZVVZ USK Prague player:
"We know in this group there are different kind of clubs and Ekaterinburg, Galatasary and Ros Casares have great players. But I think in a game anybody can win".
