Montenegro made a big statement on Friday evening with an 85-60 smash win over Serbia on day two of the U20 European Championship.
In a Group A action Montenegro improved their record impressively to 2-0 while Serbia fell to 1-1 before the last day of the first round.
This win secured the path of Montenegro to the Qualifying Round yet their final ranking in the group depends on tomorrow's result, while Serbia's fate will be decided tomorrow.
A third quarter run by Montenegro made the whole difference in this battle between two countries that used to be one until not so long ago.
Bojan Dubljevic hit 17 for the winners, Nikola Ivanovic hit 15, Marko Todorovic added 13 and 12 rebounds while Milutin Dukanovic finished with 12 points and 7 assists.
Serbia, who missed the injured Nemanja Nedovic, saw 13 points by Danilo Andjusic, who was their only player in double-digits.
Andjusic led Serbia to an early 7-13 gap, but Todorovic and Dukanovic put Montenegro on top for the first time before the first quarter came to an end.
Todorovic continued to dominate under the board while Serbia struggled to find the man to operate, and finished the first half down 40-35.
Andjusic scored the first points out of the locker rooms, but saw the opponent run 11-2 and take the first double-digit gap of the night, 51-39, yet Montenegro weren't done yet.
Dukanovic and Dubljevic scored at ease around the rim and 5 points in a row by Todorovic helped push the gap over the 20 points line, 66-45.
Serbia was out of answers to this run, and never produced a comeback.
As a result their head will be on the line in the following day.
Tomorrow Montenegro will take on Russia while Serbia will battle Slovenia in a game that will eliminate one of the teams.
