|Veronika Dorosheva chipped in with 7 points and 4 rebounds as Russia overcame battling Ukraine|
Russia rallied late on to preserve their unbeaten record at the U20 European Championship Women with a 61-54 win over Ukraine to open the qualifying round.
The defending champions found themselves trailing 53-50 in a close game with 5:10 to go.
But after a time-out, they responded in style as Yana Panevina's three-pointer tied the game and signalled the start of a key period of dominance.
Five straight points from Alexandra Tarasova gave them breathing space, and Anastasiya Shilova split a pair of free throws before adding a lay-up that made it 61-53 - an 11-0 run to complete the turnaround.
Ukraine could not find a way to respond as Olga Maznichenko's jump-shot was blocked by Tarasova and they struggled to find open looks with star forward Olesia Malashenko having fouled out with 1:47 left.
Tarasova led Russia with 14 points while Shilova had 11 and Viktoria Medvedeva 10.
Alina Iagupova poured in 18 points for Ukraine while Krystyna Matsko had 12.
Malashenko managed just four points but put up 16 rebounds before her early exit.
