Spain cruised to a straightforward 67-46 win over Latvia in the opening game of their U20 European Championship Women Group D campaign.
Last year's silver medallists roared out of the blocks, outscoring Latvia 19-5 to take control of the game early.
Latvia, who won bronze a year ago, found themselves 31-11 down after Vega Gimeno's lay-up midway through the second quarter, but then finally found some fight, with Anete Kirsteine scoring in a 7-0 run that lifted their spirits.
But Spain swiftly broke their hearts again, with Mireia Vila's jump-shot capping a 17-0 run that made it 52-25 and effectively ended the contest.
Although Spain's shooting touch would desert them for stretches in the final quarter, allowing Latvia to claw back some of the disadvantage, the result was never in doubt as Spain started the competition in style.
Vila was the star of the show with 21 points, while Gimeno added 12 and Vanessa Ble 10.
Liga Surkusa led Latvia with 11 points while Kirsteine and Sabine Niedola had 10 each.
