Martina Kissová sparked Slovakia with 11 points and 8 rebounds in a last second win over Great Britain
Slovakia snatched victory over Great Britain with the final shot of the game as they won their U20 European Championship Women opener 39-38 in Group D. Marta Palenikova made a lay-up with two seconds left to lift Slovakia over the team that beat them in last year's Division B final.
It capped a thrilling finish after Britain had rallied to take the lead for the first time in the game with five minutes to go.
Slovakia were up 35-31 early in the fourt quarter, but amid poor shooting and plenty of turnovers, Britain came back with a lay-up from Temi Fagbenle and a three-pointer from Renee Busch that made it 36-35.
Lucia Stanekova restored Slovakia's lead, but only until Ella Clark's jump-shot with 3:15 to go made it 38-37.
There were several more misses from both sides as the seconds ticked by, but after Clark missed a jumper with eight seconds to go, Palenikova scored on a fast break to snatch the win.
Martina Kissova led Slovakia with 11 points and eight rebounds, the only player from either team to score in double figures on a day when Slovakia's 14-of-58 (24.1%) shooting from the field was enough to win.
Clark had nine points and seven rebounds for Britain, while Fagbenle, playing only 19 minutes due to an injury, had eight points and 11 rebounds.
