France Beat Italy In A Low Scoring Game

France kept the tempo under control against Italy from start to finish and won 47-40, in their first game of the Qualifying Round at the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women.

France, who have yet to taste defeat in Oradea, remain at the summit of Group E together with Belgium, while Italy still have no points in this round and will have to dig deep in the remaining two games if they want to advance. 

The French team were off to a flying start and before the Italians had even realized that they were actually on the basketball court, the score was already 14-3 in favor of Les Bleues.

Neither of the teams had a great shooting day, finishing under 30 percent on shooting from the field.

But France had more opportunities to score, as they totaled 18 offensive rebounds, to only six of their opponents.

Italy entered the game as the 8th best offense in this tournament, but the French confirmed that they are the second best defense, behind only Spain.

The Italians were kept below 50 points for the first time and they didn't manage to find their shooting range ay any point throughout the game.

Ashley Ravelli scored 12 points coming from the bench, one less than all the five starters of the Italian team combined.

For France, it was also a player off the bench that led the scorers.

Romane Bernies scored 11 points in 22 minutes, while Margaux Galliou finished with seven  points and 12 rebounds.
