The Czech Republic defeated Slovakia 70-60 after timing their closing run to perfection in the first game of the penultimate day of games in the second round of the U16 European Championship for Women.
The results means that the race for a quarter-final spot remains open, especially for the Czechs who used a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter to finally break open a tight tie.
Led by 15 points from Kamila Hoskova, the eventual winners traded leads constantly through the first half before the Czechs snatched a 26-20 advantage at the break.
Slovakia hit back to go in front for most of the third period but the rivals were level at 42-42 with ten minutes left. However the Czechs eventually found an extra gear and did just enough to hold on.
Zofia Hruscáková had 12 points and 15 points to lead Slovakia.
