|Olesia Malashenko registered a double double for Arras|
Arras drew first blood in their EuroCup Women Quarter-Final showdown with Dynamo-GUVD on Thursday, winning 76-67 in Russia.
Olesia Malashenko, a candidate for the FIBA Europe Young Women's Player of the Year award, had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the French club.
The 19-year-old Ukrainian had a lot of support, with Leilani Mitchell also pouring in 17 points and dishing out five assists, and Pauline Akonga contributing 15 points and 11 boards.
If Dynamo-GUVD will know anything after this clash, it's that turnovers kill.
They had 24 in all to just 11 for Arras.
One of the turnovers that proved costly for Dynamo was made by Dynamo's Sheana Mosch, whose team trailed 64-63 with 4:36 remaining when Malashenko intercepted her pass.
France international Johanne Gomis went to the other end and drained a three-pointer for a four-point Arras advantage.
Mosch only had two turnovers in the contest but teammate Ana Dabovic had seven and Natalya Myasoedova six.
Dabovic finished with a game-high 24 points.
Krissy Bade had a game-high four steals to go with her four points for Arras.
Much larger first-leg deficits in the EuroCup Women have been overturned before, so Dynamo will know they still have a good chance when they travel to France next week for the second game.
