Nantes Rezé have the upper hand in their EuroCup Women Quarter-Final tie with Chevakata after a 83-70 first-leg triumph.
The French outfit will have to close out their opponents in Russia next week, however.
On Thursday night, Emilija Podrug and Mame Sy led the way for the winning side, which is coached by Laurent Buffard.
Podrug had 21 points and seven rebounds while Sy dominated on the interior with 18 points and 13 boards.
The French led 41-40 early in the third quarter when they went on a 12-2 run to get their noses in front for good.
Podrug had six points in that burst.
Nantes also got a great game from their young Latvia international Sabine Niedola.
She had 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Jessica Davenport poured in 17 points and corralled eight boards for Chevakata.
Nantes out-rebounded the Russian team 45-34.
Chevakata have stayed within striking distance in the tie thanks to their three-point shooting.
They hit 11 of 23 shots from long range with Elena Volkova four of seven.
She finished with 12 points.
Mame Marie Sy Diop, NRB player:
"We fought well tonight. We play fast and I think that against that kind of team, who are taller than our team, that proved the key [of success]. We hope to play the same game in Russia because that's what will get us to the semi-finals."
Laurent Buffard, NRB coach:
"I think we began the game [being] under a little pressure. But we reacted well and we played a good game. I'm happy because we won the battle of rebounds and we were agressive in agood way. Thirteen points it's a good [difference] for us but it not too much when you have to play in Russia. I think my team wanted to score at each offense, wich is a good thing when you want to play fast."
Olga Shuneykina, Chevakata coach:
"It was a bad game for us. I could criticise the referees but I won't. There will be a second game. We expected such a game but maybe we hadn't prepared enough for this confrontation. Maybe my players weren't agressive enough but maybe we could have shot as many free throws as Nantes Reze did tonight."
