BC Oostende turned on the style in the EuroChallenge yet again and beat Lokomotiv Kuban on Tuesday night.
Taking on one of the favorites in the competition, Oostende prevailed 80-71 to take over first place in Group L of the Last 16.
William Thomas had a season-high 26 points for the hosts, who were coming off an impressive road win in Europe at BK Prostejov in the Czech Republic.
The Belgians trailed 60-57 early in the fourth quarter when they reeled off nine unanswered points to go in front to stay.
In the decisive spurt, Thomas had two free-throws and a lay-up and Caleb Green made two attempts at the stripe while also sinking a three-pointer.
Lokomotiv Kuban went into the contest on the back of their overtime win at home in Russia's top flight against Spartak Saint-Petersburg.
Michael Wilkinson scored 19 points in defeat which has left Kestutis Kemzura's side 1-1.
Jean-Marc Jaumin, BC Telenet Oostende coach:
"It was the team that fought the hardest, that won the game. We were full of desire to win this game, after what happened in Charleroi. We didn't lose our head today and the execution was better in difficult times. This was a team victory. So once again congratulations to my team!"
Will Thomas, BC Telenet Oostende player:
"We know that we have to protect our home court and that is what we did as a team tonight. Now we have to stay focused and try to win another one on the road. We took advantage of what they did wrong today."
Kestutis Kemzura, Lokomotiv Kuban coach:
"Congratulations to Oostende. It was a great win for them. I think we lost against a very good team. We knew it wouldn't be an easy game. We knew that they play agressively. But it seems that I didn't prepare my players good enough mentally, not all the players were ready."
Lionel Chalmers, Lokomotiv Kuba, player:
"[It was a] hard-fought game. We kept it close in the first half. In the second half we came without the intensity we needed to win this game. It's as simple as that. We had way too many turnovers, and I myself lost the ball way too many times. It happens I guess."
