GAME REPORT

Woodside Stars As Gravelines Stay Perfect

Benjamin Woodside scored 12 of his 26 points in the final quarter as BCM Gravelines Dunkerque stayed unbeaten in EuroChallenge Group K with a 91-82 win over Lisboa e Benfica.

Benfica, bottom of the group, managed to stay with their hosts until the end of the third quarter, when back-to-back three pointers from Cyril Akpomedah and Woodside made it 68-60, and began an 18-2 run that put the game out of the visitors' reach, 80-62.

Not that they gave up, responding with a mini 7-0 run to get back in the game.

The gap was 14, 89-75, with 2:10 to go, but still Benfica heads did not drop, and they reeled off another seven straight, making it 89-82 on Antonio Tavares' lay-up with 34 seconds to go.

However, Akpomedah had the final say with a lay-up as Gravelines got the job done.

Mouhamed Sene scored 16 points and added 12 rebounds for Gravelines, while Akpomedah and Rudy Jomby scored 11 points each.

Gregory Jenkins led Benfica with 18 points while Heshimu Evans added 16 and Tavares 13.

Sergio Ramos finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

COACH QUOTES

Gravelines Dunkerque vs. Benfica Lisboa Quotes

Benfica Head Coach Henrique VIEIRA:
"I think we made a good game tonight. We had some troubles in the last quarter with our american players and the rotation was not so efficient. Gravelines deserves their victory."

Benfica player Sergio RAMOS:
"We played good in the first half, but in the second half Gravelines won some rebounds and played hard in defense. So they won the game. Congratulation for Gravelines team."

BCM Gravelines Dunkerque Head Coach Christian MONSCHAU:
"This win is an important win. It is interesting for us to finish first in this group. We grab the home advantage for the 1/4 finals and we can play the last game in Ventspils next week with no pressure. We always play for the win but we can also see that the team is really tired."

BCM Gravelines Dunkerque player Jeff GREER:
"Benfica is a tough team. They play good basketball. We played a lot of games the last 10 days with the As Cup in France, so we are a little bit tired. But we stayed focused tonight and in the second half we played with more energy and defense. This win was important for our team."
