GAME REPORT

Spartak Saint-Petersburg Stay Unbeaten

12. Patrick Beverley (Spartak)
Patrick Beverley was the man of the night for Spartak in an intense game against Barak Netanya

Spartak Saint-Petersburg won for the fourth consecutive game in the EuroChallenge Last 16 and heaped more frustration on Barak Netanya in the process.

Patrick Beverley had 21 points and Spartak overcame an eight-point, third-quarter deficit in an 80-70 victory in Israel on Tuesday.

Netanya slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat in Group I and were eliminated from Quarter-Final contention.

The hosts enjoyed a 46-38 lead against Zvi Sherf's men with 6:27 to go in the third quarter following a Dartona Washam three-pointer.

Slovenia international Miha Zupan replied with a three-ball to start the comeback for Spartak.

Petar Popovic's three-point play knotted the game at 48-48 with 4:27 to play in the frame and Anton Ponkrashov's free-throw shortly after put the visitors in front to stay.

Before Netanya knew what had hit them, Spartak had gone from a 46-38 deficit to a 55-48 advantage with 2:20 to play.

The home side got no closer than five the remainder of the contest.

Netanya's Adrian Banks had 24 points to lead all scorers and Elton Brown weighed in with 19 points and 11 boards.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Barak Netanya vs. Spartak

Barak Netanya Head Coach Eric Alfasi:
"Due to having played a lot of games in a short amount of time we wore down in the second half. We gave St. Petersburg easy shots and opportunities, and they capitalized. St. Petersburg is a good team with a good coach and they did what good teams do. We don't have a chance to advance to the next round in Europe but we will play hard in the last 2 games of the round against Haifa and Sofia. Congratulations to our young club on this great achievement to make it this far, and I hope this club continues to play in Europe for several years."

Barak Netanya Point Guard Lior Segev:
"We played a good style of basketball in the first half running in the fast break. In the second half the game slowed down and we played a lot in the set offense and didn't play our best. The league games are always most important, but we don't waste time with Europe; we took it very seriously in every aspect."

Spartak St. Petersburg Head Coach Zvika Sherf:
"Congratulations to Barak Netanya for its great success in the state cup final four and in the past league game, they are doing great things. We also have been playing a lot with our cup games and our league. Our league is very tough flying to games long distances, unlike Israel's small country. I'm proud to return to Israel, but now we must go back to Russia and concentrate on important games we have in our league and then again in the EuroChallenge.

Spartak Point Guard Patrick Beverly:
"Netanya played very good at home. We started the game in a slow way but in the second half we played more intensively. We showed today not a bad percentage of 3-points shoots that is vey important for every team. This victory helps us very much. I think the lost in the game with Khimki in PBL affrected us, we wanted to win in that game. But now we think about the game with CSKA on Saturday and this victory helped us. "
