GAME REPORT

Killingsworth, Haifa Stop Netanya

Having already beaten them twice on the domestic scene in Israel, Haifa defeated Barak Netanya 80-73 in the EuroChallenge Last 16 on Tuesday night.

With Adrian Banks, the leading scorer in the EuroChallenge Regular Season, struggling from the floor for the second consecutive week, Haifa got 21 points and seven rebounds from Marco Killingsworth.

The 2.01m center had his best moments when the game was on the line.

Eran Asante had just made a lay-up to extend Netanya's lead to 67-62 with 4:34 left when Killingsworth shifted into overdrive.

He answered with a lay-up and following a 24-second shot-clock violation by Netanya, Killingsworth nailed a jumper to cut the deficit to just one.

The 28-year-old then drew a foul by Banks and made both free-throws for a 68-67 lead.

After Haifa's Avraham Ben Chimol and Netanya's Romeo Travis traded baskets, Killingsworth replied with another lay-up to make it 73-69 with 1:37 remaining.

With 49 seconds to go, Haifa went inside to the big man and once again, he delivered for a 77-69 lead.

He added two more free-throws with 33 seconds left for an 80-72 advantage.

In the fourth quarter alone, Killingsworth scored 13 points.

Netanya are now 0-2 in the Last 16.

They were awful from long range, hitting just one of 13 on the night and at the free-throw line they sank 10 of 16.

Haifa, meanwhile, are 1-1.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Barak Netanya vs. Maccabi Haifa

Barak Netanya Head Coach Eric Alfasi:
"This is the 3rd loss on the year for us against Haifa, and they match up very well against us. We made some bad mistakes that costs us the game, however the more important game for us is this coming Sunday against Galil/Gilboa in the league. I give credit to Maccabi Haifa for the victory."

Barak Netanya Point Guard Shmulik Brenner:
"The game was in our hands. If we would have guarded better in the last quarter we would've won the game. This was a tough game for us to lose."

Maccabi Haifa Head Coach Ami Nawi:
"Finally a victory for our players. It is not an easy situation for anyone. We couldn't afford to lose this game and we fought hard for the victory."

Maccabi Haifa Center Robert Rothbart:
"It appears as if we play this way only against Netanya, however I hope we start a new path similar to this game and continue the good momentum. I felt we played well also in our previous game. We have been working hard and finally were able to rise above and collect a big victory."
