A late Entente Orleanaise rally fell short as SLUC Nancy hung on to win 70-66 and stay perfect in EuroChallenge Group H.
Nancy were up 68-61 with 1:15 to go after Stephen Brun split a pair of free throws, but Adrien Moerman's tip-in from Troy Bell's miss cut the gap and Moerman then made it a two-point game with a three-pointer, 68-66 only 34 seconds from time.
However, Victor Samnick had the final say with a lay-up with seven seconds left, and Bell missed at the buzzer as the game was beyond Orleans.
Akinlolu Akingbala led Nancy with 19 points, while Willie Deane and Tremmell Darden added 17 each.
Aldo Curti led Orleanaise with 12 points, while James Reynolds added 11.
Orleans Head Coach Philippe Herve:
"We missed a lot of easy shots, especially on free-throws. It was a tight game and both teams were very close. My team becomes more and more competitive. Despite of the defeat and the dissapointment, our game tonight is interesting for the future"
Orleans player Adrien Moerman:
"We are proud of ourselves. We wanted to win in Nancy. We were very close. I think we have a strong team and the next game in Mons will be very important for the qualification. We don't worry for next games"
Nancy player Tremmel Darden:
"We are proud about our defense. Even if you miss some shots, you can win the game with a constant defense. We work to have the best defense and to not give easy basket to the opponant."
Nancy Head Coach Jean Luc Monschau:
"We are happy to win this game hoping the qualification. Orléans is a good team. They are strong in defense and they are very talented in offense. You know, It's always difficult to play a team like that under 70 points. It's during the third quarter that we built our success."
