GAME REPORT

Zadar Hand Karsiyaka First Loss

4. Marko Car (BC Zadar)
Croat guard Marko Car had 11 points for BC Zadar

BC Zadar knocked Pinar Karsiyaka from the ranks of the unbeaten in the EuroChallenge on Tuesday night with an 82-77 Group G victory in Croatia.

The final result may have flattered the visitors from Turkey, who trailed 75-52 early in the fourth quarter before reducing the deficit and losing by five.

The decisive surge for Zadar (2-2) came when they extended a 13-11 lead midway through the first quarter to 31-13 early in the second.

Danijel Jusup's side would end up going in front 42-17 with 5:17 to go in the quarter on a three-point play by Ivan Tomas.

Karsiyaka battled and made a lot of progress in the fourth quarter.

They went on a 10-1 run to reduce the arrears to 80-71 with 1:26 left.

With 47 seconds to play, Osiris Eldridge's dunk left the hosts with an 82-75 lead and Jovo Stanojevic then hit a lay-up with five seconds to go for Pinar that left them with just a five-point loss.

Because they fought until the end, Karsiyaka ensured they have a better goal differential in the meetings between the sides.

That could prove significant by the end of the Regular Season if a tie-breaker is needed.

Zadar's 25-year-old forward Ive Ivanov finished with 18 points to lead the Adriatic League side in scoring.

He must like the sight of the Karsiyaka jersey because Ivanov had 19 points in the first meeting that was won by the Turkish outfit, 88-81.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes BC Zadar vs. Pinar Karsiyaka

Pinar Karsiyaka Head Coach Hakan Demir:
"Congratulations to Zadar, they deserved to win, but the important thing for us is that we kept our 7 point difference from Izmir. It seems that we have big chance to qualify to the second round. Zadar is a very difficult opponent for all teams in our group. We want to be the first in group G."

Pinar Karsiyaka player Osiris Eldridge:
"It was a good game tonight, very hard, we had bad start, overall we fought back but it was too late."

BC Zadar Head Coach Danijel Jusup:
"This victory means a lot to us, I think this is a big thing for my players and their self-confidence. We played very good for first 3 quarters and in the last one we fell down. I am very satisfied; I gave a chance to all players. It is hard to keep that tempo we had in first 3 quarters, because there are a lot of young players in my team."

BC Zadar player Ivan Tomas:
"This was our best game since I came to Zadar. We played 30 minutes very good, and in the last five it seemed we lost our strength, we didn't have ideas in our game, but we had some advantage and we won."
