|25-year-old Croat guard Marko Car led Zadar with his season-high 22 points|
Marko Car scored 22 points to lead BC Zadar into the next phase of the EuroChallenge with an 81-67 win over EHTA Encomi in Group G.
Both teams had a shot at second place, as well as Apoel Nicosia, but it was Zadar who secured it with a comfortable home win.
They made their intentions clear as they began the night on a 14-2 run, and the margin had grown to 23-6 when Pavle Marcinkovic threw down a dunk with 1:50 left in the first quarter.
They finished the first quarter up 28-10 and in firm control, a theme that held through to half-time when they enjoyed a 50-31 advantage.
Encomi were not about to give up yet, however, and a 14-2 run at the start of the third quarter, capped by Reginald Redding's three-pointer, put them back in the mix, down 55-47.
They ended the third period, trailing by seven, 59-52.
But the final stanza belonged to the hosts, and Car's three-pointer sparked an 8-0 run midway through the period that gave them back firm control.
Marcinkovic finished with 15 points for Zadar, while Ivan Batur and Ive Ivanov had 10 each.
Anthony King poured in 25 points for Encomi, adding eight rebounds, while Tarick Johnson had 12 points.
ETHA Encomi Head Coach Antonis Constantinides:
"Congratulations to Zadar, we lost everything in the first half, tried something in the second. Zadar killed us, we didn't do anything in defence which was our strongest weapon till now. This competition was a great experience for us; we did a good job this year and hope to participate even better in EuroChallenge next year."
ETHA Encomi player Valdas Dabkus:
"It is difficult to speak about this game, we lost in first 20 minutes and tried to come back in the second half but we couldn't. We lost our concentration and didn't follow the coach's instructions."
BC Zadar Head Coach Danijel Jusup:
"We played very good all first half, our defence and rebounds were great. In second half my players felt tired, and ETHA used that. But I am very satisfied with this game and we passed to the second EuroChallenge round. This makes me very happy. ETHA is very good team, they play good defence especially out line."
BC Zadar player Miro Bilan:
"We are very happy because we passed to the second round. The beginning of the game was good, we had 20 plus, and then we stopped. They had very good offensive rebound, but we managed to win."
