Lokomotiv Kuban edged out Enterprise BC Dynamo in a tense finish to their all-Russian EuroChallenge clash.
|Jeremiah Massey added 9 rebounds to his 13 points to narrowly miss out on a double-double|
Lokomotiv looked to have matters in hand as they led 87-82 with 1:39 to go, but Petr Gubanov tipped in from Dmitriy Khvostov's miss and Vasily Zavourev then nailed a three-pointer to tie it up 52 seconds from time.
Michael Wilkinson missed for Lokomotiv while Khvostov was also off target before he fouled Lionel Chalmers.
Chalmers missed his first shot from the free throw line, but edged Lokomotiv ahead 88-87 with 16 seconds to go as he made the second.
Zhukanenko drew a foul and hit both shots to give Dynamo the lead 89-88 seconds later, but there was a final twist as Zhukanenko then fouled Wilkinson, who made no mistake to give Lokomotiv the win.
The final two points took Wilkinson's tally to a team-high 19, while Chalmers added 14 and Tucker and Jeremiah Massey had 13 each.
Nikita Shabalkin led Dynamo with 24 points but was sorely missed in the final stages after fouling out.
Zhukanenko finished with 23 points.
Kuban Head Coach Kestutis Kemzura:
"I am not satisfied how my team started to play. We weren't prepared psycologically for the game and defended very bad in the first half. After the break we started to play better. But today we were lucky. Finally we managed to win."
Kuban Forward Sergey Toporov:
"We missed Pick and Rolls. We started not agressively. At last the team managed to control the game. In the second half we were better and deserved this win."
Dynamo Forward Nikita Shabalkin:
"I think we played good and had to win. But we were not lucky. Lokomotiv has more experience. I hope this game will be a good lesson."
Dynamo Head Coach Sergey Bazarevich:
"One day ago we playedd Khimki and the team had not enough time to take a rest and to gather power. We didn't have enough players in the back line, plus Voronov got fouls very fast. But we could win. The opposite team played badly in defence but we didn't use it."
