GAME REPORT

In-Form Ohlbrecht, Bonn See Off Zagreb

Telekom Baskets Bonn hammered KK Zagreb 79-62 to knock the Croatian team out of contention for a place in the next phase of the EuroChallenge. Bonn improved to 2-2 in Group E.

They are a game behind Krka Novo Mesto and BK Prostejov while Zagreb suffered a fourth defeat in as many games.

Having edged the first meeting 100-96 in Croatia, Bonn this time destroyed their opponents after moving in front for good with a Tim Ohlbrecht jump shot with 8:09 still to play in the first quarter that gave the hosts a 6-4 advantage.

Michael Koch's side had a 20-12 lead by the end of the first quarter and were still in front 32-26 at half-time.

Ohlbrecht and Dominique Wise each had eight points at the break.

The killer run started with 6:24 to go in the third quarter when Germany international Ohlbrecht hit a jump shot to take his tally to 12 points.

That started a 14-0 run that left Bonn with a 58-35 stranglehold on the contest.

They marched to victory with 22-year-old center Ohlbrecht scoring a season-high 17 points and pulling down eight rebounds.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Telekom Baskets vs. KK Zagreb

Michael Koch, Telekom Baskets Bonn head coach:
"We came out of the gates pretty good in the first half, but let loose way too early [in the second]. Zagreb are a very talented team and they fought back before halftime. That's what we discussed at the break, and we knew we had to raise our concentration level to close this game out. I am glad of how our guys responded to this must-win-situation."

Tim Ohlbrecht, Telekom Baskets Bonn player:
"We were able to transfer our little winning streak from the Beko BBL to the EuroChallenge. I think that we definitely showed that we can play, as we wanted to maintain our chance to make it to the next round. I like the fact that this win came through a pure team effort."

Mladen Erjavec ,KK Zagreb head coach:
"I will not try to find an excuse [for the defeat] in the injuries that we have to deal with these days. We tried to give the veterans' minutes to our young and talented players who had to deal with a more experienced team. I have to apologize to all the Croatian fans in the stands that surely deserved a better game from us."

Greg Renfroe, KK Zagreb guard:
"Bonn went at us right from the start and had their foot on our throat throughout the whole game. They showed more heart than we did. We never really had the momentum going to launch a comeback."
