KK KRKA came out on top in the battle of winless Adriatic Legaue sides in Group E as they beat KK Zagreb 78-60.
The hosts got their noses in front in the early going and though the advantage remained in the low single figures in the first half, Zagreb never looked like overturning it.
Instead KK KRKA continued to pull away and they had their first double-digit lead when Jure Balazic's three-pointer made it 43-33 early in the third quarter.
The advantage was 12, 58-46, at the start of the final quarter, and KK KRKA made sure of the win as they finished on an 8-2 run, Dusan Djordjevic scoring the final points with a jump-shot.
Balazic scored 16 points to lead five KK KRKA players scoring in double figures as Edo Muric and Djordjevic had 12 each, Goran Ikonic 11 and Chris Booker 10.
Damir Mulaomerovic led Zagreb with 16 points while Gregory Renfroe added 15 and Ante Masic 11.
Denis Bajramović, coach of KK Zagreb:
"»We know Krka very well because we lost against them in NLB league in October. Three important players were missing in our team but I was still optimistic before the match. We came to Novo mesto to try to win but we have two many black holes in our game. We were concluding most of our attacks too early. Krka deserved this win and I congratulate them"
Jure Balažič, player of KK Krka:
"It was a harder game that the result shows. I would like to congratulate Edo Muric because this game was his best game in Krka's shirt. I'm looking forward to our next NLB league game on Friday."
Aleksandar Dzikić, coach of KK Krka:
"We managed to use the fact that Zagreb played without three players. I gave the younger players more minutes in the game. Some used them better, some not so good. It's important that we won in front of our home crowd. I expect that in the next game there will be more spectators."
