GAME REPORT

Prostejov Shut Down Bonn Offense To Stay Unbeaten

BK Prostejov prevailed in the battle of the unbeaten teams in Group E of EuroChallenge as they claimed a famous 81-75 road win in Bonn at Telekom Baskets to take the early initiative in the race to make it to the next phase of the competition.

It was a real roller-coaster of a game for the home fans who ended up leaving the Arena disappointed in a game they will perhaps feel their team could have won.

The first quarter was free-flowing and enjoyable with the teams tied on 24-24 heading into the second period after a fast break by Folarin Campbell brought the hosts level.

In a similar story approaching the interval, the teams were neck and neck but again Campbell completed the scoring for the period with a transition score - this time to hand his team a 42-39 advantage as they left the court.

Defences were more on top when the teams returned to the floor and with 2 minutes left in the third quarter, the home team doubled their lead to six points at 58-52.

However that would be the end of the scoring for the home team until the last period as BK Prostejov scored six straight points to tie the game and set up an exciting last ten minutes.

The Czech side then rattled off another six unanswered points straight after the quarter break until finally, after over five minutes of action, Telekom Baskets ended their drought.

However the damage had been done and the visitors kept their hosts at arms length to see out the win.

Benas Veikalas finished with 21 points for BK Prostejov while Campbell and Dominique Wise combined for 39 points for the losing team.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Telekom Baskets vs. BK Prostejov

BK Prostejov head coach Peter Balint:
"It was a very tough game. We knew that Bonn is a very strong team under the basket but in the last quarter we stopped the offensive rebounds and we stopped their transition. In the second half we played good defense. I am very happy to win this first game on the road."

Telekom Baskets Bonn head coach Michael Koch:
"Congratulation to BK Prostejov and Coach Balint. They were the better team, they played with more energy and discipline. We could not win the game because we did not invest enough. We never made the right stops and did not take the shots we needed. I do not want to talk about injuries but it is a tough situation for us at the moment."

BK Prostejov player Benas Veilalas:
"It is good to win on the road. Bonn was a strong team and we were happy to win the game. I think we played a good game as a team, especially in the second half our defense was excellent. Now we are looking forward to the next game in Zagreb."

Telekom Baskets Bonn player Folarin Campbell:
"It was a great game. We fought until the end of the match but I think we played bad defense. We had a big chance to win but we did not play until the end. We have to play with more confidence and as a team. I hope that Nic Wise's injury has no affect on our next games in the league and EuroChallenge."
