GAME REPORT

Killingsworth Leads Maccabi Haifa To Win

Maccabi Haifa moved closer to the Last 16 of the EuroChallenge with Marco Killingsworth leading the way at BC Khimik.

Killingsworth had 25 points - including a go-ahead jumper with 4:20 remaining - and 13 rebounds as Haifa won 81-77 in Ukraine to improve to 3-1 in Group B and drop the hosts to 1-3.

Christopher Howard's three-ball had Khimik in front at 66-62 three minutes into the fourth quarter.

That's when Killingsworth grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck.

The 2.01m center answered with eight straight points on jump shots or lay-ups for a 70-66 Maccabi Haifa advantage.

His last two baskets in that run came after Khimik turnovers.

Three times the home side closed the gap to two points but the Israeli team had an answer each time.

After a Curtis Millage lay-up cut the deficit to 75-73 with 1:32 to go, Sylven Landesberg drained a three-pointer to take the lead back to five.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Khimik Yuzhny vs. Maccabi Haifa

Khimik Player Oleksandr Prokopenko:
"I want to say that we made some stupid mistakes at the end of the game. We lost a lot of balls. We had a problem with rebounds. We couldn't stop their fast break.  The end of the game was not well organized."

Khimik Head Coach Zoran Martic:
"I would like to congratulate the team with the winning game. I think that we had three or four minutes in both halves that weren't good enough. In organizing the offence we made some foolish mistakes. We gave Maccabi Haifa a lot of chances for easy points in the beginning of the second half and at the end of the game. The difference between the team is not big but we couldn't control the game today."

Maccabi Player Drew Housman:
"It is a tough team to play with. We just committed the team defense. Before the game we were basically practicing on rebounds and our defense. Thankfully we stuck together at the end of the game and won it."

Maccabi Head Coach Elad Hasin:
"It was a tough game. Khimik didn't give up. They showed a lot of character. Their players showed a good fight. But we didn't lose our concentration. We made a few mistakes but it is not an easy gym to play in and the team is good. We'll have the second game in two days and we have to get ready for that game."
