BK Ventspils locked up top spot in EuroChallenge Group B with a big 99-62 win over Maccaba Haifa.
Rashad Anderson poured in 23 points while Ingus Bankevics added 16, to leave Haifa hoping for a Deutschebank Skyliners win over BC Khimik to allow them to progress from the group.
Knowing that victory would give them a stranglehold on the group, Ventspils wasted little time in taking control, and Anderson's jump-shot with 3:48 to go in the first quarter put them up 21-8.
They continued to pile it on and a 13-2 run late in the second-half, sparked by Anderson's three-pointer, gave them a commanding 51-21 lead from which Haifa had no way back.
Lauris Blaus contributed 14 points to the Ventspils win.
Sylven Landesberg led Haifa with 13 points, while Boris Rothbart and Larry O'Bannon had 10 each.
Maccabi Haifa Head Coach Elad Hasin:
"I congratulate BK Ventspils for the victory. They deserved it, because they came out concentrated and aggressive. My team didn't do their best today. BK Ventspils have deserved first place in the group. They have very good shooters, for example, Anderson, Strēlnieks, Kuzminskas and others - they are all Europe level players."
Maccabi Haifa player Boris Rothbart:
"We came out not concentrated and we didn't fulfill our plan of the game. BK Ventspils had good combinations and good shooters. My team had a very bad defense, but the home team fulfilled everything offensively and defensively."
BK Ventspils Head Coach Algirdas Brazis:
"I want to congratulate the team and all the fans for this victory. I think it is a good Christmas present for me as a head coach and the people who support BK Ventspils. We were ready for this game and practiced a lot before it. I am satisfied with what our team was doing on the court. Now we have 6 games more to go with other Europe level teams in the next group and we should be ready for it, too."
