GAME REPORT

Skyliners Rally To Deny Khimik

A late run from the Deutsche Bank Skyliners denied BC Khimik a place in the last 16 of the EuroChallenge as they went down 72-60.

BK Ventspils' earlier win over Maccabi Haifa left the door open for Khimik to go through, but the Skyliners' late run means it is Haifa who advance.

The Skyliners were trailing 57-55 until Joseph Dabbert tied it with a pair of free throws with 7:12 to go, starting a 13-0 run that was capped by Quantez Robertson to give them a 68-57 lead with 3:07 to go.

Curtis Millage made a lay-up to keep Khimik in it, but Wood's free-throws only carried the game further away, and with it any hopes of a comeback.

Wood led the Skyliners with 18 points, while Jimmy McKinney added 16 and Kimmo Muurinen had 10.

Travis Garrison led Khimik with 12 points while Oleksandr Kolchenko had 10.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes D. Bank Skyliners vs. Khimik

BC Khimik Yuzhny Head Coach Zoran Martic:
"In the 1st half we played very good but were not able to get a bigger advantage out of this. Frankfurt came out better after halftime and in the end was able to win with a big difference.
The home team had simply more energy in the end of the game."

BC Khimik Yuzhny player Travis Garrison:
"Frankfurt played hard and wanted to win this game. They were able to get the offensive rebounds and did all the small things right, played good defensive and chased every ball. We will focus on our national league now and try to learn from the mistakes we made tonight."

Deutsche Bank Skyliners Head Coach Gordon Herbert:
"It was a tough game for us but we wanted to finish on a positive note. Our intensity was not so good in the beginning. I think DaShaun Wood showed a lot of leadership and intensity. He got the other guys going. It was our duty to go out and play hard tonight. Of course we are disappointed that we did not make it to the last 16."

Deutsche Bank Skyliners player Jimmy McKinney:
"I think we showed a lot of character tonight. We knew we could not advance but still wanted to win this game. We got some good defensive stops and hit our shots. In the end it was a team effort."
