There were celebrations in Gorzow as KSSSE AZS-PWSZ made it third time lucky as they recorded a first success of the season with a convincing 74-61 win against Frisco Sika Brno, thanks mainly to a 16 points and 15 rebounds performance by Belarus star Yelena Leuchanka.
Just as important to the home team was a much better performance in terms of looking after the ball a whole lot better while it was a significantly improved second half display that laid the foundation for the win.
The home team started brightly and led 22-15 at the end of the first as Justyna Zurowska finished the period with a flourish by draining a triple.
A drought at the start of the second for Gorzow then allowed Frisco Sika Brno to tie the scores up at 22-22 with a Louice Halvarrson basket after scoring seven unanswered points.
With just over two minutes to go until the midway point of the game, the home team had began to move up through the gears and having found their offensive rhythm again, opened up a double figure lead at 36-26.
While Brno tried their hardest to eat into the advantage of their hosts, they couldn't get anywhere near for the remainder of the game as the home team held their opponents at arms length in impressive fashion.
Playmaker Samantha Richards contributed a nice cameo performance for Gorzow with 9 points and 5 assists.
There was little to celebrate for Brno with the exception of Swedish National Team pairing of Frida Eldebrink and Louice Halvarsson who were the only players to reach double digits as they combined for 36 points.
Cheryl Ford might not have reached that landmark as far as scoring was concerned but did clean up on the glass with a creditable and indeed hugely impressive 17 rebounds.
