GAME REPORT

Brno Edge Nadezhda In Wednesday Night Thriller

Frisco Sika Brno bounced back from last week's hammering in Schio to defeat Nadezhda 62-61 in a EuroLeague Women thriller.

Led by a 13 point, 12 rebound double-double from Jelena Škerovic, who added five assists, the home side fought back after trailing most of the second half.

Cheryl Ford added 15 points and nine rebounds for the hosts, while Frida Eldebrink chipped in with 12 points.

It was a second straight loss for Nadezhda, who were led by Lyudmila Sapova's 20 points, with Tina Charles continuing her fine year after winning the WNBA Rookie of the Year award by adding 13 points.

The visitors started well, with Charles putting them 7-2 ahead, but Frisco fought back and trailed by only two, 19-17, at the first break.

Irena Borecká levelled the score in the opening 13 seconds of the second period and Romana Stehlíková put Brno 24-20 ahead with five minutes of the half remaining.

They maintained the lead before Elena Berseneva put the visitors 29-28 ahead going into the final 90 seconds of the half.

However, Brno closed out the half strongly as Frida Eldebrink hit a pair from the line to send them into the locker room 32-29.

An Elbrink three made it an eight point game after two second half minutes, but an 11-2 run capped by an Olga Ovcharenko score saw the teams level 42 going into the final three minutes of the third period.

Elbrink broke the run, but four Sapova points plus a Ovcharenko basket saw the visitors lead 48-44.

That lead grew to seven at the 5:27 mark as Sapova sunk a shot, but the home side chipped away at the deficit from the foul line only to see Sapova make it a three point game going into the final 80 seconds.

Up stepped Ford at this point, and she cut the arrears to 61-60 with just over a minute to go before sinking the game winner with 12 seconds on the clock - with Ovcharenko's attempted buzzer-beater rimming out.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Frisco Sika Brno vs. Nadezhda

Jan Bobrovsky, head coach Brno:
"I was disappointed with our performance in the beginning of the game. We played bad in defence. Cheryl Ford couldn´t play in the beginning of the game, because she didn´t leave her black socks and referee didn´t admit her to the game. Last game we paid penalty for her socks. She couldn´t play nine minutes today. Orenburg had problems with Tina Charles in the end of the game. After her faul she pushed to the referee. Our victory was happy today. Our team was better than in the last game in Schio. I have to say Orenburg helped us in the first period, shooting our rival was terrible. But in the second period we had after offensive tactic advantage nine points. But next minutes we lost 4:17 and we were in the beginning again. In my opportunity Orenburg have a strong and very good team."

Romana Stehlikova, Brno:
"The key moment of the game was after the technical mistakes off Charles in last quarter. We started play more better. We surprised us."

Alexander Ermolinskij, Orenburg:
"I have to congratulate our rival to victory. We lost game myself after a lot of mistakes. It was the same as in the first game in home field against Valencie. Brno was better in offensive play, in rebounds. And that decided about result. We played bad and made mistakes in defence."
