A powerhouse performance by Rebekkah Brunson helped Ros Casares to successive home victories in EuroLeague Women as they followed up their success against Gorzow with an 82-74 win against Frisco Sika Brno.
Brunson produced a sparkling display with a super double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds to steal the show and cheer up home fans who were in a glum mood after a domestic defeat last weekend to arch rivals Halcon Avenida.
For Brno it was an encouraging performance with many people fearing they could be subjected to the kind of heavy defeat they suffered on the road at Beretta-Famila Schio on the opening day.
However with Cheryl Ford now getting fitter and stronger enabling her to continue a crusade to give her team a real lift, they are a much more competitive unit and even in defeat, Ford was again prominent as she grabbed her own monstrous double-double of 17 points and a remarkable 20 rebounds.
The visitors pushed their hosts really hard for the most part and by half-time, Ros Casares certainly knew they were in a real game with a narrow 40-36 advantage.
It wasn't until the end of the third when the Spanish side began to ease away with free-throws by Katie Douglas helping the home team into a double-digit lead and then a tip in by Laia Palau giving them a 64-52 lead going into the final period.
Frisco Sika Brno wouldn't lie down and continued fighting hard. While they never really made any impression on the score until the last few seconds, there is enough to suggest they could yet get another few wins in the remaining games - especially having got road trips to Schio and Valencia out of the way.
