GAME REPORTTarbes GB are off and running in Group C after they ensured visiting USK Prague remain winless by claiming an exciting 81-77 success thanks mainly to 22 points from forward Jelena Dubljevic. After losing at Galatasaray last week, the French Champions were hoping for some home comforts and so it proved as they put the ambitious visitors to the sword. It had looked so promising for Prague during the early stages of the game as they put together a 9-3 spurt to finish the first period 23-17 ahead. However, the home team responded in double-quick time and within three minutes of the second period had tied the game up at 25-25 thanks to a score by Ivanka Matic. Things got even better for Tarbes when at 31-31 they then scored nine unanswered points rounded off with a triple by Pauline Jannault. However rather than putting their foot to the peddle and increasing their advantage, Tarbes were left ruing their chance as Prague stepped up their defence and held them scoreless during the last two minutes of the half to close to 40-38 at the break. With neither team able to make a decisive break during the third period, the home side still led by two points heading into the last ten minutes and it proved to be a nervy finale. At 70-64 it looked it would be Tarbes' night but Prague flipped things around with an 11-2 run as an Eva Viteckova score put them 75-72 ahead with just under four minutes remaining. Incredibly, the visitors would only manage two more points in the game as Tarbes kept looking inside and managed to keep their cool from the free-throw line to see out an excellent victory. Matic just missed out on a double-double by one rebound while veteran Delisha Milton-Jones finished with 18 points and 7 rebounds for Prague who will now have to hope it is third time lucky when they look for that elusive first success. |
