After their heroic victory on home soil against reigning Euroleague Women champions Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje last week it was back down to earth with a bump in Salamanca for VICI Aistes as they crash landed to a 75-55 road loss.
The Kaunas club were always struggling against the Spanish giants despite a bright opening five minutes when they kept their hosts at bay at 14-14.
However Halcon Avenida scored the last 8 points of the quarter to lead 22-14 and they gradually began to exert their power as the second quarter went on.
An inside score by Sancho Lyttle put the home team ahead at 38-24 and the gap was still 14 points heading into the second half.
With young Alba Torrens continuing her energetic and impressive start to the season, VICI Aistes were unable to handle her and she was the main thrust behind Salamanca retaining absolute control.
A triple by Sylvia Dominguez on the buzzer meant the home team were cruising 61-43 at the end of the third and with the visiting offence finding it tough to make an impression, the last period was little more than a procession.
Rather fittingly, Alba Torrens rounded off the scoring for her team with a three-pointer and she finished the contest with 19 points.
Ausra Bimbaite meanwhile who produced that truly stellar display last week was once again the top performer for VICI Aistes with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
VICI Aistes head coach Mantas Sernius:
"I usually don't speak about Referees nor during or after the games but today's Refs would work in the third division of Lithuanian Basketball and this is Euroleague. We played our game but missed a lot of shots, the level of Avenida's players is better than ours and we couldn't overcome that"
Halcon Avenida head coach Lucas Mondelo:
"This was a difficult game for us and Kaunas is going to be a tough matchup in their home court. The team made a great effort but we still have a lot of things to work on. For us winning wasn't easy. We missed one of our best players in Anna Montañana and had to play with the centers a lot of time which made things easier for their offense, but gave us great options in the inside"
