The winter break did not come at a good time for VICI Aistes, who crashed to a heavy defeat at ZVVZ USK Prague on Wednesday night in the EuroLeague Women.
Having upset Halcon Avenida and Galatasaray before the holidays, Kaunas outfit VICI Aistes returned to the European wars in the new year and were flattened 87-60 by a Prague side that got 20 points apiece from Delisha Milton-Jones, Lindsay Whalen and Katerina Elhotova.
The other Prague star to wreak havoc on the night was Czech international Eva Viteckova, who made three of five shots from long range and finished with 17 points.
Milton-Jones had 10 points and both Viteckova and Whalen scored eight in the first quarter as Prague stormed into a 27-16 advantage.
The rout was on when Czech international Elhotova drilled a three with 4:41 to go in the first half for a 42-19 lead.
After going to the break facing a 52-29 deficit, the second half was an exercise in damage limitation for VICI Aistes, who fell to 3-6.
Victory for Prague raised their record to 5-4 and kept them in the hunt for a top-two finish in Group C.
Prague conclude their campaign next week at Galatasaray and VICI Aistes host Tarbes GB.
Gala, VICI Aistes and Tarbes are fighting for the fourth and last play-off spot in the pool.
VICI Aistes Head Coach Mantas Sernius:
"ZVVZ USK started the game very aggressively and with a big intensity. They were fast and made good decisions in defence."
VICI Aistes player Marina Solopova:
"They played a great game. It is a strong team and it is not a coincidence that they beat Spartak and Galatasaray at home."
ZVVZ USK Prague Head Coach Lubor Blažek:
"We played good in both offense and defence. VICI Kaunas is strong in 1 on 1 situations and I'm glad we managed to cope with it. We had some shooting trouble against Valosun Brno last week but today we did doses of good shots."
ZVVZ USK Prague player Kateřina Elhotová:
"The key was to play a good offense and coach told us about the defence. We had some open shots and it was just on us to turn the shot into score."
