Diana Taurasi and Fenerbahce showcased their offensive firepower and underlined why they are considered as genuine contenders for the EuroLeague Women title this season after racking up a 109-92 home floor win against Gospic Croatia.
The Turkish team posted the highest total to date in this year's competition while Taurasi repeated the same feat as far as individual players are concerned by lighting it up and pouring in 34 points to go with a healthy seven assists.
Fenerbahce started the contest like an express train and while Gospic matched them during the middle two quarters, they were always comfortable and never looked in any serious danger of being derailed.
After four minutes of action, the visitors had managed to keep pace with the hosts at 14-14 but a 16-5 burst effectively killed off any realistic chance of producing a big shock.
The run by Fenerbahce handed them a double-digit lead after the first ten minutes at 34-23 and gave the Croatian club something of a bigger mountain to climb.
To their credit, when Taurasi increased the margin to twenty points at 51-31 with a free-throw and with four minutes to go until the break, the visitors took advantage of the home team easing off the gas.
They held the hosts to just two further scores and headed to the locker rooms down 55-43.
There was then better to come for the visitors as they cut the deficit to single numbers in the third but you always sensed Fenerbahce were just waiting to step it up again and so it proved.
With the margin at the end of the third quarter the same as at the half at 12 points, Fenerbahce found the form they had displayed during the first part of the game to finish strongly and highlight their dominance.
Taurasi wasn't the only player to shine with team-mate Nevriye Yolmaz continuing her good form with 22 points and 7 rebounds.
Penny Taylor who was named Player Of The Round during the first week of the season posted another impressive line with 15 points and 8 rebounds while Maurita Reid scored an impressive 28 points for Gospic Croatia.
Fenerbahce Head Coach Laszlo Ratgeber:
"We are happy to get our second week ın Euroleague, Gospic game. We need to improve our defense, and İ believe its going to get more organized in time. Now we will work harder and get focused on our next games. We are a new team and we still have lots of games left, we will get organized and concantrete for all games. "
Gospic Croatia Head Coach Stipe Bralic:
"We knew Fenerbahçe team is very strong and they would use home court advantage. we prepared in this way but we did mistakes in offense and defense. Fenerbahçe is maybe the best team in Europe and has great roster such as Taurasi and we had trouble guarding her."
