Gospic Croatia enjoyed the sweet taste of victory for the first time this season in the EuroLeague Women on Tuesday night.
Mauritia Reid scored 25 points and Marija Vrsaljko poured in 24 as Gospic destroyed Lotos Gdynia, 98-83.
The result has left both sides with one win and seven defeats in Group B.
Though both sides are not mathematically eliminated from the play-off contention, it would take a minor miracle for either team to progress with Rivas Ecopolis two wins clear and in fourth place.
Only the top four sides will progress to the post-season.
Victory was richly deserved for the home side.
They blew the game wide open with a run that began late in the first quarter and ended in the second.
Leading 20-16, Michelle Maslowski made the second of two free-throws and Ivana Jurcevic followed with a three-ball.
Gospic went on to score 14 unanswered points and Lotos never recovered.
By half-time, the lead was 63-40 and with 11:10 left in the game, the advantage had ballooned to 83-57.
The rest of the contest was an exercise in damage limitation for Lotos, who got 15 points from Latvia international Elina Babkina.
Dariusz Raczynski, coach of Lotos Gdynia:
"We paid the price for playing every three days. We are aware that EuroLeague is finished for us, but we have had a great experience. Now we turn our focus to the Polish League. We have a young team and time is on our side. We congratulate Gospić for a great game and a well-deserved win."
Daria Mieloszynska, Lotos Gdynia:
"Our opponents deserved to win. They had better shooting than us. We are quite tired and we weren't able to keep up with their playing. This was our worst game and our EuroLeague campaign is now over."
Stipe Bralić, coach of Gospić Croatia Osiguranje:
"We played very well in the first half. We were up by 25 points and then we just kept up this difference in the second half of the game. I am very satisfied with the way my players played this evening as they didn't allow the opponents to get ahead at any point in the game."
Maurita Reid, Gospić Croatia Osiguranje:
"We played a great game and this is seen at the final result. We can beat anyone when we play like this. Lotos Gdynia is neither Fenerbahce nor UMMC. This team was easier to play against. After the difficult games we had, this was an easy win."
