| 01.12.2010 EuroLeague Women | | Maria Stepanova | It didn't take long for UMMC Ekaterinburg to get that winning feeling back. One week after falling to Fenerbahce at home, Gundars Vetra's side defeated visiting Gospic Croatia, 77-63. Russian national team star Maria Stepanova had 20 points and six rebounds for UMMC, who improved to 5-1. The setback for Gospic Croatia (0-6) has left them as the only side in the competition without a victory. Stepanova had eight points and Olga Arteshina six as Russia threatened to blow the game wide open in the opening seven minutes when they took a 22-2 lead. Gospic finished the quarter with a 10-0 run, though, and then closed to within 29-21 early in the second frame after a three-pointer from Iva Badanjak. Ivana Jurcevic's three-ball reduced the arrears to 33-26 with 4:19 to go in the first half. That was as close as they would get. UMMC kept them at arm's length with Crystal Langhorne's bucket stretching the advantage to 13 at half-time. After the restart, Cappie Pondexter scored six points in an 8-0 spurt for a 52-31 Ekaterinburg stranglehold and they stayed in command the rest of the way. UMMC led by as many as 23 before easing to a 14-point win. |
