| 15.12.2010 Cras Basket Taranto wrapped up first place in EuroLeague Women Group A on Wednesday night with a heart-stopping triumph at Wisla Can-Pack Krakow. France international Elodie Godin had 14 points - including a go-ahead jumper with 35 seconds remaining - to lift Taranto (7-1) to a 58-57 win. Erin Phillips had a chance to put Wisla back in front after Godin's basket but missed. Jose Ignacio Hernandez's side now have a fight on their hands to lock up second place as they are level with Good Angels Kosice at 5-3 with two games remaining. After the next game at TTT Riga, Wisla will head south to Slovakia to face Good Angels in a contest that could decide which team finishes runner-up to Taranto. Taranto had to dig deep to win this one. With 5:30 to go, they were staring at a 53-46 deficit after a Phillips jump shot. Baskets from Sara Giauro, Michelle Greco and Brooke Smith cut the home side's lead to 53-52 with 3:47 to go. Australia international Phillips scored, taking her points haul to 18, but Greco replied with a jumper for Taranto and then passed to Godin, who struck to put her team in front at 56-55. Dorota Gburczyk-Sikora gave Wisla their last advantage at 57-56 with 43 seconds to go. Godin scored for the second straight trip down the floor and it proved to be the game-winner. |
