USO Mondeville made it a happy return to EuroLeague Women after their two year absence as they put 2010 Final Four participants Wisla Can Pack to the sword 76-65 on their home floor thanks to an impressive perimeter shooting display.
The French side recovered from a distinctly unimpressive first half to really find their ELW feet after the break and then put the squeeze on the visitors in the final quarter.
Herve Coudray and his team not only won the game thanks to shooting a near 53% from downtown put also handed themselves a huge confidence boost after suffering successive domestic defeats.
A third straight loss had looked to be on the cards after they started at a snail's pace and found themselves down by double figures at 37-25 after a Gunta Basko free-throw shortly before the half-time break.
At that point, the Polish visitors looked to be cruising but it proved to be a false sense of security for Jose Hernandez and his players as USO Mondeville began to work hard to wipe out the deficit.
It was a stunning 15-1 run during the third quarter for the hosts when the game was turned on it's head. Trailing 46-37, the home team exploded into life and when Valeriya Berezhynska drained a triple, they found themselves 52-47 in front.
After this point, USO Mondeville kept a tight grip on the game and remained firmly in control with a super last ten minutes as they showed they are a team who can compete at the elite level by taking a sizeable scalp in the form of a disappointing Wisla Can-Pack.
Lenae Williams led the way with 20 points including four triples while Kristen Sharp dished up 7 assists.
Hervé Coudray, Head coach of USO Mondeville:
"The first half was hard because of turnovers which gave the other team too many easy baskets. We came back because we had a good percentage at three pointers and we played good defense in the second half which helped us to win the game."
Kristen Brooke Sharp, USO Mondeville:
"We had a good game, it was so exciting to be involved in this game because everybody played well and contributed to the victory."
