Wisla Avenge Defeat To Mondeville

EuroLeague Women

Wisla Can-Pack Krakow stormed into a decisive early lead against visiting USO Mondeville in Group A of the EuroLeague Women on Wednesday and ultimately prevailed 65-47.

The hosts moved into second place with their fourth victory in six games while leaving the French club 3-3 - the same record as Good Angels Kosice following the Slovakian outfit's defeat to Cras Basket Taranto.

Wisla went on a 9-1 run to lead 11-3 and then surged into a 22-6 advantage after scoring 11 unanswered points.

When Dorota Gburczyk-Sikora buried a jumper on a fast break for Wisla, Mondeville found themselves staring at a 26-10 deficit.

They managed to reduce the arrears to 33-26 when Valeriya Berezhynska nailed a three-ball but Gburczyk went to the other end and scored from the arc to take the lead back to 10 for the Polish team at half-time.

Berezhynska's three-pointer early in the second half cut the Krakow advantage to 38-31, but the home side stayed in front and eventually pulled away for an 18-point victory.

Ewelina Kobryn finished with 19 points and nine boards for Wisla and Berezhynska had 14 in defeat.

Wisla out-rebounded Mondeville 45-33 and their win would have been even more convincing had they not been 10 of 20 at the free-throw line.

When Mondeville beat Wisla in the first week of the season, they made nine of 17 shots from long range (52.9%) but in Poland, they were a mere three of 17 (17.6%).
