USO Mondeville continued to make the most of the wild card that they received to play in the EuroLeague Women by knocking off previously unbeaten Cras Basket Taranto on Wednesday night in France.
The French team improved to 3-1 with a 64-59 victory in Group A with Valeriya Berezhynska enjoying the best game of her young career.
The 24-year-old Ukraine international killed the Italian side with 19 points and 16 rebounds. A 1.93m center, Berezhynska even stepped outside and buried her only two three-pointers.
Mondeville made seven of 14 shots from the arc on the night.
The game was tied at 34-34 early in the third quarter when Berezhynska, who had seven points in the first half, and Yacine Sene hit back-to-back jump shots.
Mondeville kept their noses in front the rest of the way, though Cras kept the pressure on until the very end.
Taranto guard Kathy Wambe's lay-up and Meghan Mahoney's jumper left Mondeville clinging to a 61-59 lead with 53 seconds to go.
After a KB Sharp miss for the hosts, France international Elodie Godin launched a three-pointer for the Italian club but was off target and Mondeville rebounded.
Taranto fouled Berezhynska and she sank one of two free-throws to extend the advantage to three.
Berezhynska, with 13 seconds to go, then reached in and stole the ball from Wambe and drew another foul.
This time she sank both free-throws for a 64-59 win.
Sene weighed in with 17 points while Sharp scored seven, handed out seven assists and grabbed five boards.
