FYR of Macedonia sent out a message to the rest of Group B as they crushed Hungary 78-44 in their second EuroBasket qualifier.
The game was over as a contest before the first quarter was even over, with Darko Sokolov's jump-shot putting FYR of Macedonia 19-5 in front with 2:56 left to go.
A 17-4 run that spanned half-time, capped by Todor Gechevski's three-pointer, made it 54-23, and FYR of Macedonia could already start thinking about Sunday's trip to Newcastle to face Great Britain.
Gechevski led FYR of Macedonia with 17 points while Sokolov added 15, Pero Antic had 14 and Predrag Samardziski came up with 10.
Adam Hanga led Hungary's all-too-tame resistance with 13 points, while Akos Horvath had 11 and David Vojvoda 10.
F.Y.R. of Macedonia Head Coach Marin Dokuzovski:
"At the begging of the game, during the first quarter we made good points, but we noticed that the Hungarian team has very good shooters, so we had to play strong defense. Impressed by the audience, the Hungarian team had difficulties with the morality, so we took the chance and started to lead the game. "
F.Y.R. of Macedonai player Damjan Stojanovski:
"As our coach Marin Dokuzovski said we succeed to close their outsider shots, played very hard in the defense, and win the game."
Hungary Head Coach Lajos Mesaros
"I congratulate the national team of Macedonia. We noticed that in their team they had 2 high quality players that together made 31 points, Todor Gechevski and Pero Antic."
Hungary player Marton Fodor
"The biggest problem of our team was that we have many injured players, and we could not give our maximum at the game."
