Hosts Slovakia outscored Hungary 18-2 in the third quarter and then hanged on for a 58-51 victory in the U18 European Championship Women 2010 tournament to make absolutely sure of a Qualifying Round berth.
Marta Páleníková collected 11 points including two three-pointers and dished out four assists for Slovakia.
Bettina Szabó carried her team through the first quarter scoring eight points despite Slovakia's aggressive full-court press defense.
The hosts improved their field goal accuracy in the second quarter and closed the gap to 23-24 after sharpshooter Denisa Domiterová fired from downtown with 2:44 to play but Hungary closed the first half leading 28-23.
Slovakia came out aggressive after the break and initiated an 18-0 run and held Hungary scoreless in the third quarter until the very last seconds when Anna Mansaré made a pair of free throws.
But Hungary were not down on their knees yet and got as close as 45-41 after Lilla Adamecz knocked down a triple in the middle of the final quarter. But the hosts were not to be denied and behind a huge support by their fans managed to keep Hungary at bay the rest of the way.
