In a match-up between two teams already qualified for the Quarter-Final Round, Turkey defeated Belgium 77-63 to secure first place in Group F of the U16 European Championship Women in Greece and made a further step toward realising their dream of taking home a medal.
Turkey extended their winning streak in the tournament to five games. Belgium couldn't stop their opponents and had to accept a clear loss.
Merve Aydin (Turkey) scored 20 points to lead all scorers while she added three steals. Her team-mate Cansu Köksal posted a double double (17 points, 10 rebounds).
Belgium was led by Heleen Adams who scored 16 points. Both teams shot the ball well and rebounded evenly. From the start to the finish there was only one team that controlled the game however. It was Turkey.
After trailing 11-17 in the first quarter Belgium could not keep up with the pace of Turkey any longer. Turkey bolstered their lead up to twelve points until halftime (32-44).
They also controlled the third quarter en route to a convincing 13 point lead (43-56). The game was out of reach for Belgium, who couldn't close the gap in the fourth. Turkey didn't let down and tabbed a 77-63 win over last year's runner-up.
